OK. I was preferring option 2, since it seemed most consistent and
helpful (why do we need to eat text and delimiters separately anyway?)
but your point is a good one. Still, it's a bit of a wart, adding
another "any-word" that's not QUITE any word (though .y. is already
excluded).
