Posted by rlpowell on Mon 25 of Jul, 2005 18:05 GMT posts: 14214 Various nattering that used to be on the page itself: 'seltcana' network 'lerseltcidu' text 'selsku' content (text, images, sound) 'velsku' media, information channel (anything that conveys information) 'skucripu', 'datnyterjo'e', 'judrysni', 'sinxa', 'pevyvro' hyperlink (n.) What's the place structure of 'skucripu'? How about judrysni or just plain sinxa? 'You can find the places of skucripu here' I think the key idea of the hyperlink is that it's a link, not simply a symbol. I suggest 'datnyvelgri' for the actual link and 'judrysni' for the link's symbol that appears on the page. 'vricyvelskuselnirna', 'balcukta', 'jondatnymu'e', 'samrxuebe', 'dikca te judri' World Wide Web The inventor of the first term now prefers the metaphorical second suggested term. The coiner of the third term is distinct. The fourth term is a fu'ivla, and is also pretty common. I dislike all of them. If you're going to use a short lujvo, at least use one that has something to do with the topic at hand, like 'datnyci'e' or something. Of the above, I hate 'samrxuebe' the least, and 'dikca te judri' the most, with 'balcukta' a close second. I also like 'la .ueb.', because the web is a unique thing, IMO. — mi'e Robin Lee Powell I had fun inventing ve'e vrici vreji, which is slightly close to the English meaning. I think it should have la, since it is a single thing. 'balckupau', 'samrxuebe stuzi', 'jondatnymu'e tcana' Web site 'sezyskinoi' Home page Actually 'sezyskinoi' is far broader in meaning than just 'home page'. Software: 'mutmi'i', 'mutca'a', 'samselpla' 'mutmi'i' is good for "virtual machine" but can't describe all software. For example, a text editor cannot be a minji because it's not automated. It's the word used by GnomeNewWords, even for an editor (which it calls, specifically, datnygafmi'i). --pne Is that supposed to prove something? -Robin 'samselpla' could mean a hardware design as well as a software design (which doesn't bother me). IMO, samselpla is code, not a running or runnable program. -Robin Here are the ones from the lujvo list. Note to self: having more than one lujvo is *OK*! samru'e:skami+pruce:computer program [currently executing; process]:$pruce1 $pruce2 $pruce3 $pruce4 $skami1 samselpla:skami+se+platu:computer program [not necessarily executing; source code]:$platu2 $platu1 $platu3 samymidnoi:skami+minde+notci:computer program:$notci1 $notci2 $=minde3 $notci3 $=minde1 $notci4 $=skami1 $=minde2 samtermi'e:skami+te+minde:command line, computer instruction:$minde3 $minde2=$skami1 $minde1 'balcukta clupa' Webring (mutce zmanei zo clupa zo cukla) (la'acu'i zo linsi mapti ji'a) .i ku'i ma se linsi i lei stuzi poi jonsi'u cu se linsi These wiki pages seem to use skamrxuebe cukla (see the bottom of any page)... and the links are wrong, too: webring no longer belongs to Yahoo!. --pne 'zunsnu' "troll" 'se mipri ke so'imei basycme' "tentacle"
Posted by rlpowell on Mon 25 of Jul, 2005 18:32 GMT posts: 14214 Not done with this yet; still need to add some of the old stuff back in. joncku has not been added to jbovlaste yet; here's the suggested place structure. c1=j1 is a web page/web site/presentation of hypertext/hypercard/hyperlinked/linked document(s) c2 created by author c3 for audience c4 in medium/website network c5 linked to document(s) j2 by hyperlink(s) j3 x2, x6 and x7 should be complete specifications, or end in li'o. Use fa'u for x6 and x7 to associate links with their destinations. c5 could be dropped, but if it's left in then "ralju xe joncku" falls out as a term for the world wide web. Getting to the x6 and x7 is a PitA, so for talking about hyperlinks I suggest "ckujo'e", which is just the above with the jorne places first. -Robin
