Posted by PierreAbbat on Wed 05 of Mar, 2008 03:59 GMT posts: 324 I thought of this sentence for la jufra karni: mi zvati la .uagnr. gi'e farcta la mkydauyl. gi'e mrecta re le clupa mokca tezu'e lenu farcarna le cartu This is intended to mean "I occupied Wagner, backsighted McDowell, and foresighted two of the traverse points in order to orient the map." (I and another member of the crew did that yesterday.) I'm not at all sure about the technical terms, though: {zvati} for "occupy" seems reasonable. I was there, and if I wanted to be any more specific I'd have to say that I set up an instrument over the point. "backsight" means to point the instrument at some point and set the angle or elevation (angle in this case; we're not measuring elevations) to some assumed value (usually 0 for angles) or to its value if known. In this case the bearing from Wagner to McDowell is known, but we didn't have it, so we set it to 0. The prof is going to bring in a sheet with coordinates of these points. {mrecta} seems reasonable. I looked at the points and wrote the measured angle and distance. A traverse is a sequence of points with the distances and angles between them measured. This traverse is closed, so it is a clupa, but I don't think that's the best term. Is {mokca} the right term for a location which has zero extent in X and Y, but does have duration? The traverse points are pieces of wood stuck in the ground with brads driven into them; we'll pull them up when we're finished using them.
