Will ((hamlet)) do for posting comments? mi'e ((greg.)) I have replaced all the original text with my metered version 'til Horatio's first sentence. (I don;t know how you were planning to go about it Jay) -- greg ---- ;barnardos:doi ma ;franciskos:na'i .i mi se spuda ko le nunalmu'u gi.e cmene cusku vau ;barnardos:a'o nolraitru jmive ze'e ku ;franciskos:barnardos. ju'opei ;barnardos:mi'e ri ;franciskos:do klama ca le satci tcika ti ;barnardos:li gai caba'o tcika .i doi franciskosco'a se klama fa le ckana ko ;franciskos:.i ckire fi le nu do basti .ui.i u'inai ro'i mutce lenku vau ;barnardos:puca'o smaji xu ;franciskos:na muvdu ;barnardo:fe'oco'o.i fau le nu la xoracos .e la marcelus.vu'o noi joi mi bandu catlu ku'ose viska do kei ko cu jungau le remei le du'u .ei se sutra ri ;franciscos:mi klama tirna ju'ocu'i ra.i ko na muvdu doi ma ''la xoracos .e la marcelus. zorkla'' (End of verse mi'e greg) ;xoracos:mi'a pendo ;marcelus:je vrude selfu be le nolraitru ;franciskos:coico'o ;marcelus:co'o doi vrude sonci .i ma basti do ;franciskos:la barnardos. fe'o ''ri zevykla'' ;marcelus:doi barnardos. ;barnardos:.uanai la xoracos. xu vizyzva ;xoracos:piso'u ri je'a go'i ;barnardos:fi'i .xoracos. fi'i doi marcelus. ;xoracos:pau .o'oru'e xu le dacti cu za'uroi se viska ca'o le cabycte ;barnardos:mi pu viska noda ;marcellus:la xoracos goi fo'a pu cusku le du'u ko'a xanri mi'o gi'e toldji co kricu ledu'u le terpa se viska be mi'o be'o no'u ko'a zasti .i ki'u la'e di'u mi spedu lenu fo'a kansa be mi'o klama te zu'e lenu fau lenu ko'a no'u le morti'o klama kei fo'a tugni le mi'o kanla fo ko'a gi'e tavla ri ;xoracos:.ianai ga'iro'e .i fo'a ba na klama ;barnardos:ko ze'a zutse .i .e'apei mi'o za'uroi gunta le kerlo be do noi mutce se bandu fi le lisri be makau poi mi'o ca le remoi nicte pu viska ---- (coimi'e maikl. i mi ciskycusku di'e .itu'e lo'e la xemlyt. noi balvi trajynobli seji'o le gugrdanska le'u tcita di'e .itu'e dracypau pamo'o xipa .i se stuzi la .elsenor. i bitmu tanxe crane le rokyzda ni'o ko'agoi la fransisk. denpa vi leri se fuzme .i klama fa ko'egoi la byrnard. i sei ko'e cusku vizykla fa ma le'o ni'o sei ko'a cusku mi'enai do'u ku'isai ko sisti gi'e sezyjarco ni'o sei ko'e cusku trajynobli zabna .i'i ni'o sei ko'a pe'u byrnard. co'e ni'o sei ko'e cusku go'i ni'o sei ko'a cusku fu'e.i'eru'e do smaji klama fu'o tu'u) *What is wrong with ''xamlet'' as a lojbanization of hamlet ? the '''e''' (which you also chose to insert in elsinore) is malmerko at best (I also don't see why the English schwas should survive in any of the names). *Where did you get all your introductory lines from ? (''le bangrtlenanu'') My copies (Cambridge university press & Stanley Thomas) of ''hamlet'' give ''A gun platform on the battlements of Elsinore castle. Enter '''Barnardo''' and '''Francisco''', two sentinels.'' and ''Elsinore. A platform before the castle. Enter '''Barnardo''' and '''Francisco''', two sentinels.'' *I can't quite work out your ''sei''s (without the *''se'u''s, they would be rather confusing for any actor) (--the clause ends with the ''cusku''.) *I don't believe Barnardo is being asked to show himself (''sezjarco'') but to give identification ; if he were, it would be in direct contradiction with the previous order. *''Long live the king'' is a problem ; ''zabna'' does not solve it though. *I'll pass on ''Barnardo?'' as I can come up with no better. *''fu'e li'o fu'o ki'a'' *Err ''You came silently'' ? When/re did Shakespeare say that? ("You come most carefully upon your hour.") -- mi'e greg (I liked your attitudinals though) ---- Greg, this is better than I thought. :-) I'd change the following: ''ki'e I'd got tired of metre by the time I got to the end of the modifications - yielding unlikeable tanrus enjambements and '''stuff'''. I'll respond better when I've got my glasses on and I've read through all your comments, deciding on what I agree on and what I don't zo'o mi'e ((greg.)) ;barnardos:li gai caba'o tcika .i doi franciskosko co'a klama le sipckana .e'u (You don't want to make the metre force you to say something ''utterly'' unnatural.) ;franciskos:na muvdu This is still ducking out; yes, I know it's hard to render "Not a mouse stirring" just right (not ''even'') a mouse, but you might still want to try something involving po'onai, ji'a, and/or mu'a. ;barnardo:fe'oco'o.i fau le nu la xoracos .e la marcelus.vu'o noi joi mi bandu catlu ku'ose viska do kei ko cu jungau le remei le du'u .ei se sutra ri Thank you for the vu'o; no thank you for the noi joi mi :-) , which even if grammatical is confusing. Try "vu'o noi ke'a joi mi badzga ku'o". The enjambment at "ko cu jungau le/remei" is awkward, as you know; perhaps "se viska do kei; ko re ra cu jungau/le du'u ra cu sutra klama .ei" ;franciscos:mi klama tirna ju'ocu'i ra.i ko na muvdu doi ma I don't like the tanru, and would have said "mi tirna pe'i ra noi klama". ;marcel__l__us:la xoracos goi fo'a pu cusku le du'u ko'a xanri mi'o __kei__ gi'e toldji co kricu ledu'u le terpa se viska be mi'o be'o no'u ko'a zasti .i ki'u la'e di'u mi __c__pedu lenu fo'a kansa be mi'o klama te zu'e lenu fau lenu ko'a no'u le morti'o __cu__ klama kei fo'a tugni le mi'o kanla fo ko'a gi'e tavla ri "lenu fau lenu" is asking for trouble in terms of intelligibility; why not "lenu fo'a; fau lenu ko'a no'u le morti'o cu klama; cu tugni". Lojban pedantry might be disinclined to agree with eyes; perhaps "tugni fi le kanla se xusra"? ;barnardos:ko ze'a zutse .i .e'apei mi'o za'uroi gunta le kerlo be do __be'o__ noi mutce se bandu fi le lisri be makau poi mi'o ca le remoi nicte pu viska I'm not convinced it really is "makau" rather than just "da"; not interested in a Lojban debate battle royal, but think about it. -- nitcion
