To give a straightforward explanation of what is alluded to here, Loglan didn't have ''y'' originally, and bare ((cmene)) were legal vocatives.  Some people used ''r'' as a hesitation noise, and ((pc)) proposed that this was actually an invocation of the god of hesitation (see also ((ki'ai))). As a result, R was introduced into the Pantheon of Loglan Gods.
