(A basic guide to conversational topics in Lojban.)
_
Please don't mind what's going on as this is essentially a rough-draft page until somebody much more skilled can come along and pretty this up.
The idea behind the 'conversation guide' is to create a listing of topics from 'home items' to 'business place' to 'sports' and so on. In each list can include subtopics such as 'kitchen and cooking' in 'home' and 'American Football' under 'sports'. There are several goals behind this idea:
This is a basic list of broad topics from the initial proposal to the Lojban List.
(As a sub-note, I'm quite fond of including what appear to be handy phrases which are applicable to some vocabulary words. Let's not get carried away, but a few phrases you'd end up saying a lot may be helpful. Let's say as a rule that we include no more than three per word for now. You'll see what I mean in the linked sections.)
These sections need to be put somewhere and set up to match the existing list and naming scheme. Please keep similar formatting, and have a sense of humour in creating the sections as it makes the process fun for the writer and the reader.
For now I'll leave these unlinked, but I wanted the page up so we could at least get started with something. Please feel free to add topics as you feel necessary, and once we have a decent list of popular topics of conversation, we'll start fleshing out the lists and perfecting the design, should we continue with the idea behind this project. If anybody would like to take initiative in fleshing out a particular topic right now, please feel free to do some research and develop a list of available words, and under a new header should be words for which there is no Lojban equivalent.
Please note, if you are not familiar with the commonly accepted method of lujvo or fu'ivla creation, or if you do not feel entirely comfortable in creating ones which will seem proper to senior Lojbanists, you can still contribute by listing words that fit under these topics and suggest possible gismu that closely match the concept for which we need a word.
By the way, it has been pointed out to me that a terminology page exists, but I hardly find myself digging for the lojban word for the square root of negative one or how to say "triple-bypass heart surgery". However, I do find myself trying to name various utensils in my kitchen, different dishes I prepare for dinner, the names of particular pieces of furniture, household items, and normal, plain, human words that stupid people like to use (like "pot" or "noodle" or "screw it lets just go out somewhere" and "I'd like a double-cheeseburger and a chocolate shake.").
