As it stands, the gismu gloss words are not very helpful. After all, their most important task is to serve as the 'correct answer' in Logflash.
I believe that the definition field should be regarded sacred and baselined, while the gloss words should not. (Lojbab agrees with me, and I'll link his mailing list post here in time.) Often, there are several synonyms in the definition which could stand as gloss words. Also, relevant new words could be added.
This is important if the Natlang to Lojban part of the dictionary is going to be useful. Someone who is trying to express {jvsv jecta}, is much more likely to look at "state", "government" or "regime" before looking up "polity".
