Posted by Anonymous on Wed 20 of Aug, 2008 18:50 GMT How is "Charlottenstrasse"/"Charlottenstraße" pronounced in German? I'm uncertain about the "Ch", is it lojban "c", "k", something else? How would you translate it into Lojban? In particular, would you translate the "-strasse" part? ki'e mi'e xorxes To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to lojban-list-request@lojban.org with the subject unsubscribe, or go to http://www.lojban.org/lsg2/, or if you're really stuck, send mail to secretary@lojban.org for help.

It's c. > How would you translate it into Lojban? Phoneme-wise it would be something like carLOTYNctrase. (Dropping the e seems more appropriate to me than adding a consonant) I'm not sure whether or not one needs commas there. mu'omi'e florolf

(Dropping the e seems > more appropriate to me than adding a consonant) In Lojban, how would one pronounce carLOTyncras? Would it be acceptable to pronounce the 't' as a glottal stop, as in English, or is it required to pronounce the plosive? Chris Capel -- "What is it like to be a bat? What is it like to bat a bee? It has to be a plosive, else it becomes {carlo.ynctras}, though that can't be parsed as Lojban words if the o is stressed, and with gismu stress for {carlo} it would still be ungrammatical because a cmevla can't follow a gismu). mu'o mi'e xorxes To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to lojban-list-request@lojban.org with the subject unsubscribe, or go to http://www.lojban.org/lsg2/, or if you're really stuck, send mail to secretary@lojban.org for help.

(car lot-Tyn-ctra-se). Also, the second 'a' is longer than the first one! Since the spelling reform, -straße would be correct (if it wasn't a name). The ß indicates that the preceding 'a' is emphasized.
