Language Creation Society podcast now live

The LCS podcast is now live!

To subscribe, you have various options (they all result in the same thing):

iTunes: <http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=298778513>
any RSS reader: <http://feeds.feedburner.com/conlangs?format=xml>

take-your-pick: <http://feeds.feedburner.com/conlangs>
manually: <http://conlang.org/podcast.php> (the latest episode will
also be on the front page)

If you have subscribed before (e.g. while we were experimenting with
the RSS feed), please try it again; it should work now.

Our expected release schedule is every 2 weeks to start; this may
increase as we get more contributions.

Upcoming podcasts include interviews with Donald Boozer, Sally Caves,
Sonja Elen Kisa, Tony Harris, Thomas E. Payne, David Peterson, and
Sylvia Sotomayor (among others).

We are actively seeking people interested in contributing, particularly:

  • interviewers who can seek out and record conversations with

interesting conlangers (or topics of interest to conlangers)

  • Interviewers and conlangers interested in doing "making of"

conversations, going into the specifics of some particular
conlang-creation decision - what was chosen, what was rejected, why,
and how

  • people who can write and record original material of interest to

conlangers - e.g. news, linguistics tidbits, brief (or extended)
tutorials, etc

  • music in a conlang to use in outro sequences
  • original theme music to use for intro & outro sequences and branding

If that sounds like you, or you have another idea for something you'd
like the community to hear, please email us at lcs@conlang.org.

Enjoy,
Sai Emrys & David Peterson

"Lojbanists, I like this. I think there is a little too much simplicity with
regard to artifact-language fans. For example, they explain too many
language-science words. However, probably, the facts that will be recorded
exceed the property of complex assumption things ???. How many of you heard
the created thing i.e., the podcast, and how do you feel about it?"

Or something like that. I'm really not sure what he meant by "{zmadu loka
pluja sruma co'e}." Perhaps he left out a {sumti}, but what is "{ka pluja
sruma co'e}" supposed to be?

yes i didn't phrase that well :-) i just meant that their later
recordings will probably assume we already know more basic facts about
conlanging and linguistics, like i think in that first episode they
even defined "phonology"

Ah, yes. Fair point.

We tried to strike a balance there. Some of our audience will be
complete n00bs - e.g. people who happen to come across the podcast in
iTunes who just happen to be interested in language generally, but
have zero knowledge of linguistics. Some will be very advanced
conlangers with linguistics PhDs and years of research & conlanging
behind them.

We have to appeal to both - so, we try to explain any jargon we use
and open with relatively fundamental stuff (so as not to scare the
newbies) yet address topics in some depth (so as not to bore the
oldbies).

Especially so in the intro podcast, as it's intended to be an
explanation of who & what we are. Subsequent podcasts will get into
more advanced topics.

As mentioned in the podcast - if you're interested in contributing
something (about Lojban or otherwise) let us know. You're welcome to
make it as introductory or in-depth as you like - though we'd prefer
something that covers the spectrum (either within the course of one
episode, or over several episodes in a series), just for the sake of
increasing the audience accessibility.
