Lojban In General

Lojban In General

New learner says, "Hi"

Hi :-)
I'm a new learner of lojban. I came across it bizarrely enough here: emails from crazy people

hehe!

So I ran a quick search and found the concepts of the language intriguing, especially since I have an interest in computers and programming. I've been looking for a project to get into that hasn't already been done by about a gazillion other programmers. So I hope to contribute some online tools for the language sometime in the near future.

Out of general curiosity I was wondering if anyone has tried speech recognition in lojban? I have recently been involved in the testing side of a project where native speakers from various different countries have had to verbally communicate/interact with software. The results were quite interesting. Some languages were very successful while some were not so.
Maybe one day I could try and program something like that. How cool would that be? :P

we (or at least I) are always interested in novel, magical stuff that the
programmers of lojbanistan come up with. Even though there are very many
programmers amongst us, there are way too few wicked-cool things happening.

Speech recognition has already been considered a couple of times, but we usually
came to agree, that making our own speech recognition is way too much work - it
would take us upwards from a decade if we work on it full-time and we need many
speakers to get a sufficiently big corpus. If you have a suggestion that would
put lojbanic speech recognition in reach, that would be beyond awesome :-)

Be sure to also check out the #lojban irc channel on the freenode irc network
and post silly stuff on jbotcan.org!

enjoy your stay in the magical land of lojbanistan ;)

I am about to plan a project at SourceForge (udocwbsw). But, it is based on ACE.
