Outline (from Lindar's kick-off e-mail 2010-07-08)
"I had the idea to create a kids' show in the vein of Dora the Explorer, but for Lojban. The basic premise is that the show follows the life of somebody that has recently moved to Lojgugde as an exchange student, and has a very limited understanding of the language. The character, as of right now, is planned to carry around a stuffed moose named 'Chocolate' (based on the animator's favourite stuffy) who will guide the viewer along as the story progresses.

"The idea will progress as a generic "in a foreign country" plot. Day one, first day in Lojgugde; day two, my room; day three, going to the store; day four, going to school; etc. The plan is to simultaneously introduce new grammatical concepts each day along with new bodies of vocabulary that match the level of the grammar introduced."

Conceptual Aims (from kozmikreis' e-mails 2010-07-09, 2010-07-10)
"... [It] needs excitement and punchiness if it's going to intrigue and engage with kids, especially so it won't feel too much like hard work to keep up.

"Kids really need to be excited about what might happen in the next episode (and even the next scene), so best to keep the tempo of scene changes relatively high whilst breaking down the learning into small digestible sections, such that it is almost transparent to the plot. As for the plot itself, go crazy, kids identify with creative and imagination-stimulating material, but don't make any cliff hangers too blatant or extreme."

Technologies

  • 2D Animation
  • 3D Animation
    • Will probably not be done (only for tiny gimmicks), and if used is likely to be cell-shaded so that individual frames would be indistinguishable from the 2D animation style
    • Maya (if we use 3D, it may be in Maya as that's what the keyframer will have available) (proprietary, cross platform)
    • Blender (open source, cross platform)
    • Second Life machinima (suggestion by Mark Shoulson)
